Lessons are one-on-one and customized to the developmental level of each child.
Lessons are conducted 5 days a week (Monday through Friday), at a maximum of 10 minutes a day, for approximately 6 weeks. Each child has their own lesson time daily.
Rollback to Float
All students, even those as young as 6 months old, learn the fundamental ISR skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe.
Infants and toddlers who are not yet walking well will learn to maintain this position until help can reach them.
Swim Float Swim
As toddlers and young children gain more physical skills on land, they are ready to learn more skills in the water as well.
ISR teaches children to swim a short distance, rotate onto their back to a floating position to rest and breath, then turn over to continue the sequence of swimming and floating.
They do this until they can reach safety at the steps, side of the pool, or shoreline.
Skill Continuation
Your child’s initial skill set is only the beginning of your child’s skills! ISR skills must be practiced with maintenance and refresher lessons.
If your child completes lessons as a floater, they can transition to swim-float-swim when ready.
Maintenance
Once your child has completed their initial ISR Self-Rescue lessons, maintenance lessons help students to maintain their skills and confidence throughout the year. They are single-day lessons scheduled at intervals recommended by the instructor, ranging from once a week to once a month.
Refreshers
After completing the ISR Self-Rescue lessons, refresher lessons are to help children “refresh” the skills that they have already learend.
Refresher lessons are suggested every three to six months and are scheduled for two-three weeks, five days per week.
As children grow, their skills will need to be adjusted to their new height and weight.
Refreshers are highly recommended to refine their skills as they’ve most likely hit developmental milestones since the last time they’ve seen us.
